Cougar Surpassion RX – An In-Depth Look of a Gaming Mouse

Pros & Cons of Cougar Surpassion RX Mouse

The Cougar Surpassion RX Mouse encompasses the following features,

The Good The Bad
  • LCD Display
  • May need to charge daily depending on usage
  • Multiple Backlight Options
  • DPI setting is underneath the mouse
  • 20 Hour Battery Life
  • Playable as a Wired Mouse

Now, we all know gaming is incomplete without a mouse.

Wait, did I say gaming? The entire computer setup becomes unusable if you don’t have a mouse.

Although, having a good gaming mouse can pump your gaming experience to its peak.

While I was thinking of what mouse to try next, Cougar sent me their Surpassion RX Gaming Mouse, the wireless edition.

I tried and tested the mouse for about two weeks and here’s what I found out about it.

Introduction & First Impressions

Surpassion RX

Judging from the price tag and the reputation of Cougar overall, I was expecting the mouse to be a High Performer and packed with features.

Although the Cougar Surpassion RX Mouse is a great option for gaming laptops because of it’s compatible design, the mouse has good features and notable battery life.

The LCD at the bottom of the mouse that gives the status of current DPI, Hertz, and Battery is something I have not seen in other gaming mouses.

What’s convenient about the bottom of this mouse is its user interface and the fact that you can change DPI and the Hertz with two buttons. However, the fact that the DPI is not placed in the center of the mouse is questionable.

The wired and wireless modes, long battery, and the variety of lighting options you get are expected given its price point.

In short, Cougar Surpassion RX justifies its price tag with its features.

The Optical Sensor of the mouse is great and it works flawlessly, and the clicking of the buttons gives a nice tactile experience without overdoing it.

The company, Cougar, claims you can have an amazing wireless response time of 1 millisecond!

For me, I had 1ms response time on average while playing shooter games that require a lot of aiming and fast mouse movements.

A solid 9/10 for first impressions and user experience.

Unboxing Cougar Surpassion RX Gaming Mouse

The unboxing experience was as expected – it came in a sleek box and the mouse itself was sitting in the center of a plastic mold.

I liked the overall experience as the mold didn’t encase the entire mouse but kept it centered in the box, exuding a professional build.

The box is a simple black-cardboard one, with the following things inside,

  • Mouse
  • Micro USB Cable
  • Connectivity USB

Performance Test

I tested the mouse in both casual and gaming conditions.

The DPI settings and a very short response delay allow the mouse to perform excellently in FPS and Shooter games like PUBG, Counter-Strike, DOTA 2, Call of Duty, and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I’ve played and tested all the settings on each of these games and the mouse performed well.

The mouse does not come with any software making it a true plug and play mouse.

Also, by the end of the second week, as I tend to put the keys through a lot of pressure to check their durability, the middle mouse button occasionally double-clicked.

The left mouse button too was feeling a bit “less tactile” than it was before but it still registered.

Battery and Backlighting – Better Than Expected

Moving to the battery performance, I found that the battery is strong and provides a lasting power source. The company claims a 20-hour battery life, which is what I experienced as well. However, the battery last may depend on usage patterns and behaviors.

The RGB also works well – the lighting comes out of the front and back of the mouse in a sleek way that is not too bright when gaming.

Again, I would have liked the DPI button to be in the middle of the mouse instead of the RGB as I find it practical when gaming. Otherwise, I need to switch the mouse upside down mid-game just to set the DPI setting (which, to be honest, is rare).

Verdict – Overall Great Gaming Mouse

All in all, I’d say that this gaming mouse is an excellent option for anyone.

There are no major problems with it and it has the essentials – RGB lighting, DPI, and Hertz settings, as well as an elegant design that is not too flashy.

Yes, there are a lot of cheap gaming mouses out there these days, but the wireless feature combined with long battery life justifies its price in my opinion.

I’d rate it about 8.7/10.
