SteelSeries Apex M800 preview
The SteelSeries M800 is now available!
SteelSeries recently announced a new premium mechanical keyboard, the M800, which claims it will be the world’s fastest and most customizable gaming mechanical keyboard on the market and the successor to the Apex and SteelSeries M500.
The technology behind SteelSeries keyboard’s speed is newly engineered QS1 mechanical switches, which activate 25% faster than traditional mechanical switches. The keys are low-profile and densely packed into the frame for less finger fatigue. Other features include optimal ergonomics, quick-access macro keys, and zero ghosting. The M800 is the newest of their Apex lineup, which has been around for quite some time. In this review, we’ll look at some of the new specs they’ve been working on and how the M800 is a real competitor for serious gaming or just general keyboard use.
SteelSeries Apex M800 specs & features
Each key is capable of 16.8 million backlight colors (Corsair claimed the same feat in their RGB boards, but haven’t yet delivered), and 8 levels of brightness for the ultimate customization experience. The backlights can be set to multiple different modes that respond beautifully to your keystrokes. Though the keyboards market is competitive, most modern mechanical keyboards don’t have the kind of backlighting tech that SteelSeries has been able to produce.
The SteelSeries M800 also boasts some high tech features such as 6 programmable function keys and some very powerful macro software to help you utilize them. Features like illuminated cool-down timers are sure to delight gamers when this mechanical keyboard hits shelves this May 1st at a retail price of $200. Too expensive? The SteelSeries have many mechanical keyboard versions, the cheapest one goes for $30. You can check it out here. Also, check out our best low-cost keyboard guide here if you’re looking for a low-cost alternative. That being said, you can expect his keyboard to be a complete beast. Super fast speeds and all of those light customization options are awesome for finger raves. SteelSeries is known for their Apex line which specializes in top-of-the-line gaming boards. If the M800 is a little too expensive for you, I highly recommend checking out their M500 or other models. Each one has its own set of features and their prices vary significantly so you can definitely find one that fits your needs.
Conclusion? This thing is insane! And I’m not surpised. The M800 is their 6th generation of the Apex model. Other gaming or PC related things SteelSeries sells include headphones and mouses. But I’m really only here for their Apex boards, which they’ve become well known for. There are many nuances to the Apex M800 that are fit for a true gaming experience. Small details such as being able to switch the angle of the keys via swappable rubber and tactile bumps are features that give this keyboard an edge to other alternatives out there. From many of the reviews I’ve read, this keyboard would be an excellent addition to your gaming arsenal (or for you everyday mechanical users out there). With a 4/5 rating on amazon with more than 290 reviews and an excellent review on PCMag, you can’t go wrong.
